Sagas of the Icelanders: the Videogame
Ralph Mazza turned me on to The Great Whale Road the other day. It just went live on Steam, and it is totally Sagas of the Icelanders. Lots of story, hard choices, angry jerks with weapons, and superstition.
I’ve only played a few minutes so far but it’s nifty.

I founded the Indie Game Reading Club in 2010. I've written and developed RPGs since the mid-90s, now I mostly talk about playing them.

Steam somehow knew this game was for me and emailed me about it today.
Have you played Banner Saga as well? The combat in this looks similar, but with way more attention paid to the non-combat side of things. Definitely looks like a good time.
Arthur Lahey I have not! But I’m told regularly that I’m supposed to have.
The combat is pretty easy so far, thank god because I’m usually kind of terrible at that stuff. Then again I just went through a little tutorial type combat, a fake fight between villagers to shake off the rust.
I dig that the very first split you can take is to play a man or a woman. Which is what put me in a mind to name-drop SotI.
