Something I love about Dinotopia is that it takes the structure of a very colonialist Victorian adventure story and breaks it, turning it into something more like an assimilationist immigrant narrative, quite independent of anything about dinosaurs, as the humans have to come to terms with living in a new culture, and one that they cannot exploit (maliciously or no).
