Aw, dang. This is exactly why I couldn’t run Torchbearer! The mechanics of the Grind, and the fact that as GM I get to introduce checks (and thus invoke the Grind) at whim, AND I get to decide what counts as a “good idea” to avoid a check… it made the whole thing really hard for me, and bounced off all of my decades of developed best-practices.
