Have you seen the part about boons. That’s the revision that made it work for me. It was an official revision in one of the books, but I don’t know if that system made it into the new core book.

If you want I can dig out the encounter rules we used (actually they’re probably on my 9 page rules reference you probably already have). I think I incorporated the boon system there.
