That paragraph on midichlorians reads, to me, as “some people think this stuff matters, but really, there’s no proof it does. In fact, there’s proof to the contrary. No one has done enough research on these things to figure it out. A bunch of people just believe they matter.”

Being that Jedi are set up in fiction as a kind of religious group for many characters/factions, this makes midichlorians sound like an unproven teaching/propaganda which could be a convenient way for them to exert control/take little ones from their homes to train.
