Speaking as someone who has a toe in OSRland and is often trying to reconcile my fondness for games in very different camps, I myself find it extremely hard to contrast gaming experiences without sounding vaguely insulting to one side or the other.

I think it’s because a) people are really touchy about preferences, and b) it’s really hard to discern real play phenomena from the murk of my preferences and local play styles.
