Thanks for sharing your strong feelings on the use of the X-card! I completely disagree with you, based on my experience using it during hundreds of tabletop sessions with complete strangers. I’ll note that I don’t use it with my home group, which is composed of dear friends who know each other well enough to communicate comfortably and know (and be sensitive to) one another’s particular areas of discomfort, and to work it out compassionately when we get it wrong, which we do all the time. At a convention I don’t have that luxury, and the X-card is genuinely useful.
