  1. This is one of my all time favorite games. If I had to cull my collection down to 10 board games I absolutely couldn’t part with, AOE III would be one of them.

I just couldn’t bring myself to spend the cash for what amounted to a rebranding and component upgrade, for a game whose components were already pretty sweet.

But I am interested in hearing whether there are any notable game play changes…

  2. When the backerkit came out I actually upped my pledge to all in…even the ridiculous sized rubber map upgrade.

Amusingly, Seth asked me…don’t you already own Mare Nostrum…I don’t think so, I replied. I’m pretty sure we’ve played it, I remember that odd name, he insisted.

So we began searching the shelves…sure enough, there it was.

So the whole “can’t bring myself to buy a game I already have just for a component upgrade” thing only applies when I can actually remember that I already own the game.

  3. IIRC the actual play experience of the Mare Nostrum update is quite different than the original. And more notable than the update to Age of Empires.

So what was the total on Mare Nostrum? $200ish?
